Why Use A Registry Cleaner?

Register CleanerPeople often wonder if they need to use a registry cleaner on their system. The answer to this question is almost always yes. Unless you are running Linux, or a Mac OS system, then chances are you're using a version of Microsoft Windows. The windows registry is a cantankerous creature, and always has been from the start.

Although newer versions are far more stable than the older ones the registry is still a trouble spot. You may not be too clear on what the registry is, as most average users aren't, so let me explain it this way. You remember the old indexing system they had in the libraries before computers? Every book had a card, and when it was checked out it was marked on the card, and in the main log.

This is similar to how your registry operates in Windows. Each file has a unique entry and when it's used it's marked as being used. Now if you went into a library with this system and ripped all the tags off of the books, and then damaged the main log file it would severely impede the libraries ability to function. This can happen to the registry making the need for a registry cleaner all the more important. Important system changes can also be made through the registry allowing malicious viruses, and programs to have their way with your machine if they get this deep.

A registry cleaner will typically analyze your system registry for left over files and folders from program installations, and removals. It then removes these left over fragments, and then patches broken links between shortcuts and programs. Think of it as spring cleaning for the library, or registry in this case. Some cleaners will even go so far as to defragment the system registry.

This has the same effect as defragging your hard drive, but for the software not the hardware. Not all registry cleaners do this though so you may have to get another program if yours doesn't support it. There are plenty of legitimate free cleaners out there, and plenty of high end ones that you have to pay for as well. You should really just do your research and grab the one you feel most comfortable using.

Remember this registry cleaner is going to be poking around your most delicate files. If you don't trust the program or it looks fishy then don't use it. After all at the end of the day you're the one responsible for your computers health. Of course these warnings apply to all forms of software that you may be considering installing.

Keep in mind a registry cleaner is not designed to protect you against viruses and spyware. You can use one to make preventative changes to keep them out but these cleaners were primarily designed to clean your machine. Many users think that just because they have one protection program they are safe from all harm on the internet. Please do not make this mistake, a cleaner is just a cleaner, if you want real virus protection download an anti virus program.
